Finding the perfect singer—whether online or offline—can be challenging. You may have a specific voice in mind, but finding the right vocalist to collaborate with isn’t always straightforward, especially if you’re working with a limited budget. And let’s face it, as bedroom producers, the big-name artists topping the charts might be out of our reach.
Here are a few things to keep in mind as you start your search for the ideal vocalist:
1. What’s Your Budget?
Starting with your budget will help you narrow down your options significantly and vocalist costs can vary widely based on a few factors:
– Are you just seeking a vocal recording, or do you need a lyricist as well?
– Do you require vocals for a complete song, including verses and hooks, or just a specific part?
– Will the singer need to record just the top-line vocals, or do you want them to handle double tracking and vocal harmonies too?
2. Royalties and Rights
Don’t forget to discuss how royalties and rights will be managed. This is important for both you and the vocalist.
3. Is Your Song Ready for Vocals?
Make sure your track is polished and ready for some vocal magic!
4. Do You Have an Original Melody?
Are you looking for a singer to bring an original melody to life, or do you already have one in mind?
Where to find vocalists online
If you are looking for vocalist online, I recommend checking out platforms like SoundBetter, where many professionals showcase their work for online collaborations. From my experience it’s the best platform to find top quality singers. If you’re on tighter budget, Fiverr is another platform where you can a find a variety of vocalists. When I talk about “budget,” I’m not saying that the singers on Fiverr aren’t talented or professional. In fact, Fiverr offers a Pro service where you can find certified professional singers who meet high standards. But if you’re open to exploring, there are also many emerging artists on the platform who can surprise you with their skills. It may take some time to sift through, but the great thing is that Fiverr provides a variety of filters and tags to help you find singers in different genres and styles.
Some singers on Fiverr offer shorter versions of their work, like just a verse or a chorus, at a lower rate. This gives you the chance to listen to their voice within the context of your songs without the commitment of a full-rate purchase. Of course, you’ll still want to compensate them for their demos, but this way, you can save on costs while making sure their voice aligns with what you’re envisioning.
